What Will You Do… To Be Beautiful?
Written by Nicole Poling
Are you pretty? Do you think you are pretty? Do you wish you were prettier? Have you ever thought that your body type is wrong or that your hair is not the right thickness? How many times have we girls burned ourselves with a curling iron or poked our eyes with the mascara brush or stood in front of the mirror for hours working in frustration to make ourselves look just “so”? Why do girls waste so much time on themselves?
One might says, ‘it’s just the price you pay to look beautiful’!
The world in which we live is screaming at us to wear our hair in a certain style and our clothes in a certain kind of fashion statement in order for us to be considered pretty. Real “beauty” goes far beyond what we wear on the outside of our bodies! Have you ever heard the saying, ‘Beauty is only skin deep’? My Pastor’s wife once told me, “Pretty is…as pretty does”.
I Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”
It does not matter what your outside looks like in comparison to what you are in character, on the inside.
When I was a young teenager, I remember how I put so much focus on myself. I would take forever getting ready to do this or fixingthat, and all in an attempt to be accepted by my family, school friends or people at church. I would find myself criticizing others, trying to find their faults so I could hide my own. That is really what happens in the heart and mind of fault finding people. They are usually not content in their own life and feel the need to criticize others in an attempt to make themselves feel better …about themselves.
When living and acting this way, I really wasn’t beautiful but actually rather ugly. The devil was using my desire to be pretty, to cause me to be self-consumed and in the end, blinded toward the truth! It was not until I came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ that I realized that God made me in His image and I did not need to be like any one else!
What is the price of beauty? Godliness…
When you think you are not pretty; work on godliness and you will truly become beautiful in the sight of God and others. “Just let the beauty of Jesus be seen in you.”
Proverbs 31:30 “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.”
What price are you willing to pay for beauty?

Such wise words from one so young.
Wise words, Nicole. Thank you for challenging me. "The price of beauty... Godliness." How true! My heart pants after this. This was trully encouraging. Love you, G.a.
