A Relationship With Christ

Written by Judy Diaz

At our Family Camp this year, the Lord used one of the ladies sessions to speak to my heart and to stir me to change. There have been many times in the past when I have allowed myself to believe Satan’s lies about my own inadequacy, comparing myself to others, and thinking more highly then I ought to think of myself. This past week, I began to question my relationship with God.  Did I have a relationship with Him that I needed to have or was there something wrong with me?
It was real a soul-searching time for me.

At a recent bridal shower, one of our ladies gave a testimony that really started me thinking about my time spent with the Lord. I need more than ever, to hear from God when I am reading my Bible in the morning.  I had become lazy in that area and I was not asking God to speak my heart.  The next morning, God showed me this blessing, and I wrote it down in my journal last night.

I Corinthians 12 and 13

In chapter twelve Paul is writing about the spiritual gifts and how each member is an important part of the body of the church. Each person has a specific role or function, but we are all essential parts of the body.

I Corinthians 12:31 “But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”

I could have several spiritual gifts, but if I do not exercise those gifts with a heart of love,  my gifts benefit no one and God is not glorified. Over looking another’s faults and failures and loving a person where there at is a more excellent way.

“And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” I Corinthians 13:13

There is only one person who can help me to love others, and that is Jesus Christ my Lord. He loves like no other person could because He is God.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” II Corinthians 10:5

“I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” I Timothy 1:7

God reminded me that one of the reasons He saved me was for me to have a relationship with Him, and I am learning that His Word is very precious because it gives me strength, wisdom, and truth to replace and cleanse my mind. I want to have God’s victory in my life, and for this verse to be true in my life.

“Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. Psalm 119:133

For many single girls, our self-focus can become a huge stumbling block to real contentment in Christ.  It will lead us into having a critical spirit and our fellowship with the Lord will not be what it should be.

Oh that God would have complete dominion over me…..

Such a "simple" truth that has profound affects when we allow God to have His way in our heart and life. Thank you Judy. I needed this as well.

Wow! It's a blessing when the Lord is showing you things, then someone (you!) come along and put it all into words... Thank you for sharing your heart with us. It's so very true and sweet to meditate on!
